- “There’s not enough conversations around getting accommodations on this campus. Insane how many things [new students] go through, mental health struggles and physical health struggles, and she has been the first person to tell them they can even get accommodations. Recognizing that our struggles are different. I was the first person in my friend group to get accommodations and it was nerve racking to talk about it. So many people suffer and are silent at this school and it’s not necessary. Once you get into SDS you get so much access. But so many people don’t even have that first conversation. The POC communities haven’t been reached by these accommodations even though we’re in a position where we really need these resources. The accommodation testing rooms are usually majority white. People think that struggle is just the way that things have to be.”
- Lack of awareness about accommodations on campus and among incoming students
- “Getting accommodations is still going an ongoing issue. Having to go to every professor individually to get accommodations and “prove” who she is and what she needs. While the office for students for disabilities is prepared to help but it hasn’t been translated to her and to now still doesn’t have her accommodations. There needs to be more done for people with invisible disabilities and we need more than a flyer saying that we’re seen. And there needs to be a change in the ways professor are equipped to accommodate disabilities and how to communicate with students with disabilities (what is appropriate and what is not appropriate). That the professor should reach out about disabilities and not wait for you to reach out to you.”
- Training that professors are required to go through?
- snowplows pushed snow in front of a lot of the dropped curbs and ramps on campus, student struggled to get around campus and get to classes on time

- “My microeconomics teacher could not for some reason get the SDS program to let me schedule my exams with them so I just didn’t use them… For the last midterm and final I literally saw him put in the request on his computer and then nothing showed up on my end. For the last Org Chem midterm (Remsen 140) all the accommodated students were put in a completely unacceptable room: no clock, not enough space, right by the building door so all the normal-time kids celebrating disrupted the accommodated kids’ test taking. My orgo lab final (Remsen 347) also was in a room with no clock.”
