Executive Meeting #5

September 23rd, 2025 / 10:00 AM / BSC

  2. Appointment of Johnnie Moore
  3. Omotara suggested seeing what other senators express during today’s GBM. Students reached out to SNF agora but received no response. She addressed that Zaynab wanted the discussion to be open as any students should be able to express their concerns freely and be educated for the matter, but she thought it could be achieved in a different way.
  4. Charles addressed that we can prepare certain questions to lead the discussion instead of having a complete free discussion. He emphasized when we invite people to the GBM, we must make sure they feel welcomed and comfortable expressing their opinions. At the same time, we must set the tone with respect including senators, speakers, and newsletter members.
  5. Omotara expressed that some students may show concern about the transparency aspect if having a closed session. She also suggested having an open session when she attends the GBM with present questions.
  6. Srigouri also said in regards to Zaynab that she has an intention of educating the student body and also willing to ask for more insight.
  7. Charles addressed that having a presentation will be useful to spark the discussion and lead the conversation but also be opening up a comfortable and respectful space for students.
  8. Omotara said we as executive board should communicate with Zaynab and the student body that this discussion session is being planned. Zaynab also suggested E-board to email invite some students.
  9. Charles suggested not privately inviting students as we cannot ensure they will receive the answers they expect.
  10. Charles also notified Sigouri to let her know she can reach out to him any time.
  11. Omotara also addressed that closed or open sessions will be determined by senate voting process.
  12. Srigouri suggested her advising having the discussion open before voting.
  13. Update on Dr. Brown Dinner
  14. Srigouri reported Dr. Brown was really excited about our input on BSC and dining.
  15. Update on Jay Games
  16. Tyler reported that some programming members left the event before their appointed time was over. He said that he will shift the timeline so more students can attend the event.
  17. Budget Email (Imad)
  18. Imad said that he has not received email yet since the beginning of this academic year.
  19. Omotara asked Imad what happened with the Phi Delt Crab Fest sponsorship flyers.
  20. Jessica reported she asked them to update all the flyers so some of them are getting updated now.
  21. Srigouri said it is crucial that they promote SGA in their flyers to let the student body know that SGA is open to sponsorship.
  22. Omotara suggested we can be more clear about how the promotion must be included in event advertisements moving forward.
  23. Improving SGA Instagram presence (Civic Engagement Committee Initiative)
  24. Srigouri conveyed the presentation CEC had during the GBM about creating social media posts that will open up
  25. Omotara suggested doing weekly updates for SGA account and update the website once every week
  26. Srigouri suggested using this weekend to update the website
  27. Omotara also suggested utilizing the head shots we collected from the senate last year.
  28. Srigouri asked if the election will be limited to freshmen.
  29. Jessica answered it will only be open to freshmen and the special election will be just an application process.
  30. Jessica suggested communicating the amount of time commitment during the application process.
  31. Retreat in DC on Oct 11
  32. Charels emphasized that retreat is not about the location, rather, the context matters. He suggested doing it at the Pava center.
  33. He also suggested doing it in BSC to advertise the space.
  34. Omotara suggested utilizing the movie theater room.
  35. Administration invitation to GBM
  36. Srigouri said she will be sending emails to student body to let them know there will be opportunity to meet with administrators at SGA GBM and they can submit their answers
  37. Hopkins Dining is set on the 7th.
  38. Other departments are still pending their responses.

9. Student Art Pieces

  1. Charles presented some art pieces that will be on the construction fences.
  2. He will be finalizing the selection based on the conversation.
