The Problem A senator’s first year in SGA can be confusing due to Meeting procedures Starting initiatives Knowing who to contact Following through with goals Difficult to get immersed quickly Leads to stagnance Productivity as an organization decreases Unfulfilled long-term (5, 10 year) goals Develop a mentorship program Allow for smoother transitions when being inducted to SGA Changes/initiatives will be made quicker and more efficiently
The Solution: “Big/Little” Similar to big/little systems in other clubs, but without lineages Pairs based on commitment/energy level All first years in SGA will have a big: “Freshman” even if not a first-year student Eligibility to be a big: ≥1 year in SGA Was a senator in the previous year Not mandatory Responsibilities: Check in with freshman senator Answer questions about SGA, ideas, logistics Recommend initiatives/direction Be nice!
