Senate of the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University

SECTION 1. TITLE. This Bill may be referred to as the “SGA Transparency Act”

SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS.

  1. SGA — The term “SGA” shall refer to the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.
  2. JHU, Hopkins - The terms “JHU” and “Hopkins” shall refer to the Johns Hopkins University.

SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.

  1. Establishment of social media guidelines for streamlined, efficient, and timely communication of information.

SECTION 4. Social Media Posting Procedures

Section 1. Each Standing Legislative Committee Chair shall be authorized to request the creation of up to three (3) social media (Instagram) posts per academic semester to update the undergraduate student body on committee initiatives, events, or upcoming policy changes. Section 2. Each Standing Legislative Committee Chair shall be required to create one (1) end of academic year (Instagram) post to update the undergraduate student body on committee initiatives, events, or upcoming policy changes. Section 3. Such requests outlined in section 1 and 2 shall be directed to the Director of Communications, who may delegate execution to the Communications and Marketing Commission (CMC). Section 4. The Director of Communications shall ensure that a draft of the post is created and submitted for administrator approval within one (1) week of receiving the request, unless a two (2) week extension request is submitted by The Director of Communications and granted by a majority vote in the Senate. Once approval is granted, the final post shall be immediately published. Section 5. This bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and remain in effect for the current Senate term unless superseded by subsequent legislation or incorporated into the Bylaws.

SECTION 5 . SEVERABILITY. Should any provision of this Act, an amendment made by this Act, or the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstance be held to be unconstitutional, or the remainder of this Act, the amendments made by this Act, and the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

Upon passage, we have hereunto set our hands and caused the seal of the Senate to be affixed to this bill indicating the Senate’s assent and thus officially designated the bill’s adoption as law.
