113th Senate Committee on Civic Engagement
Date: 29 March 2026 Time: 1:30pm:1:54pm Location: Zoom Present: Chair Kirsten Amematsro, Vice Chair Alan Perez, Omotola, Shreeman Patel, Caraline Sommer Absent (Excused): Absent (Unexcused):
Meeting began at 1:35pm
Kirsten: First note of business, after this election cycle, us as a committee should figure out what we can do to wrap up this administration. We can write down a one page feedback analysis for the purpose of helping improve student engagement in Hopkins.
Shreemann: Overall, with his civic engagement personal project, the way it may work is to create a small, clear problem description. Open it up to RSOs to apply with proposed solutions. Evaluate submissions based on feasibility and realism. Select one to officially endorse through SGA. RSO executes the project with SGA oversight. For Hopkins caused issues, the Civic Engagement Committee can take the lead directly and focus on lobbying administration, gathering community input, and including findings in a formal written proposal.
Chair Kirsten: Identify 1–2 key issues that matter to us (especially problems caused by Hopkins). Overall, supports the idea and approach.
- Prepare a brief problem report in collaboration with 21CC.
- 21CC has extensive research and is willing to share their data with us.
Shreemann:
- Process should be structured and officialized early in the semester/year.
- Use 21CC’s annual survey data to guide issue selection.
Meeting ended at 1:54pm
