Veda: Yes, will be sure to have one of every size

[silence]

Jazzlyn: Do I hear any motions?

Shreemann: Motion to refer to Finance Second: [someone] Aye: [some people] Nay: Abstain:

Jazzlyn: Referred to Finance.

Jason: Point of Information; we have some supplies in closet

*next bill* Shremann:

  • The last few GBMs have had issues with free expression, for example in discussion with Newsletter
  • Thank you Charles for feedback
  • No real place for this assertion to go other than a resolution
  • Free expression not just of all students, but also specifically of SGA members, this is what was in question
  • expression.jhu.edu
  • We are not looking to pass this immediately
  • We are looking for a motion to refer to the Civic Engagement committee

Jazzlyn: Thank you Shreemann. Any motions?

Jackson: Motion for 5-minute Q&A with 1-minute speaking time Second: Demarri Aye: Nay: Abstain:

Jazzlyn: 5-minute Q&A with 1-minute speaking time.

Jackson: Thank you for this resolution, Shreemann, can any senator affirm?

Shreemann: [explanation of yes] For saying "aye" you are counted as support of resolution, as you know silence is interpreted as an "aye"

…

Jason: Could you clarify point 5: *reads point 5*

Shreemann: Sure; I'll use Jazz as an example since she's on the bill; if the Senate passed a resolution saying that FFC has the best food, Jazz is allowed to say that FFC does not have the best food on the Newsletter or any other place

Jason: You mentioned this, that very clearly… you're supposed to specify your official position if you want to / (I as POTS) vs. the SGA believes… I'm over complicating it but—

Shreemann: I think I understand, [explanation]

Sumire: 2 points: 1) Add Sienna to the signatures; 2) the Newsletter mentioned having a disclaimer, can we do that here as well?

Shreemann: Sure

Jackson: We can say that SGA members must speak as individuals, but can we enforce that? The Constitution won't let us censor their speech; like in Jason's example, we can only disagree with the statement that this is some official opinion of the SGA…

Honora: The presumption should be that a member is speaking for themself; the Newsletter is the only place where a disclaimer may be necessary.

Jackson: Motion to refer to Civic Engagement Committee.

Second: Peter

Aye: [some people] Nay: Abstain:

Jazzlyn: Moving into 2nd reading,

Mamadou: This is the Crab Fest bill from last GBM, and passed with positive recommendation by Finance Committee

raygin (?) : I'm the current philanthropy chairman, here to clear up any questions or concerns. Like the first one is about waste: the first thing I mentioned is that the cost of the crabs is fixed, no matter what; we partner with KIRR ANGEL (?) who runs .. house crabs, and they don't make any money from giving us these crabs, in fact they actually lose money; he tells us to pay what we can, he believes in the cause, his family was also affected by the cause of the place we donate to; the cost of the crabs is fixed;

Reason we had an issue is because HopkinsGroup page wouldn't get up until a week before; caused by struggling to get rec center as host;

Another concern from finance committee was SGA not being represented in our event; I'm totally not opposed to putting you guys on the HopkinsGroups page, currently it has "co-hosted with Office of Family Engagement," but also I can be sure to add SGA […] This is like a really huge event for the family weekend […] Even the Office of Family Engagement which hosts Blue Jay family picnics doesn't get as much traction as our group.

Jazzlyn: Any motions for this bill?

Demarri: Motion to amend the year from 25-26 to 26-27.

[i guess we say it passed? no contest, obviously]

aarshi: Motion to discharge—well, I mean, pass

Second: [someone (?)] Aye: Nay:

Jazzlyn: This bill has been passed. Onto the 5k Phi Beta bill.

[...]

Jazzlyn: Any motions?

aarshi: Motion for 5-minute Q&A with 1-minute speaking time

Why aren't they using their own funds, are they trying to give to charity?

Honora: Point of Information; they are using their own funds, their presentation says so

[someone, member of public]: Point of Information; A member of Pi Beta Phi here.

Charlotte: I am (director of service) of Pi Beta Phi; can you repeat your question?

aarshi: *repeat*

Charlotte: We are definitely happy to put SGA logo on both t-shirt and on programming; I mentioned this last week, we have updates from last time, we are using funding for other items, the idea is that with your support we can make this event available to all, not just Greek life

Jackson: On Aarshi's point it's helpful for us for historical record here's how much Pi Phi Beta put in vs SGA, so if in the future you […] we understand where that balance is; I would support an amendment to say what the total dollar amount is; this is the overall total, SGA vs RSO contribution, so we know what part we're contributing to, and in the future what can happen. I yield the remainder of my time.

Honora: My question is with SGA, if we provide funding does that lower the general student ticket or the general ticket and also the Greek life?

Charlotte: Greek will stay the same; we're already pulling from FSL, this would be mainly for undergrads; for Baltimore public and staff/faculty the price remains the same.

Veda: How are you going to implement the SGA thing if the link is already live? What's going to happen there?

Charlotte: Using eventbrite, there's a […] option, we will go at check-in, they will show they are undergrad, and then we will refund them and have them pay the reduced price, or give a partial-refund.

Mahima: On the Phi Theta Delta bill it doesn't have … it just says XX for the RSO support, i'm not sure why we are asking here when we didn't for the previous bill we passed

Charlotte: at the time we submitted the bill, we have the number, not sure how the process works; for reference it's a tiny bit south of the Pi Phi Beta

Mahima: I was just saying that regardless it's not an issue

Shreemann: Yeah, if you know the number, we can motion to change the number; what is it

Charlotte: 950-ish; yeah

aarshi: Back to Veda's point; as the Finance Committee and SGA we are not allowed to reimburse; this happened in an earlier Finance Committee meeting; so what you're describing it seems a bit low; you're putting 950 but asking 500

Jazzlyn: Time up.

Peter: Point of Information; I don't get your question about ticket sales

aarshi: Remember in our last meeting how the club already had the event, and they wanted to reimburse but we did not allow this; here they have a hiked-up price; it doesn't make sense.

Peter: If the budget is going to t-shirts, water, etc., it should be fine.

[someone]: They're not asking us to reimburse, aarshi.

Jazzlyn: To clarify, there is no reimbursement in this process?

Charlotte: Correct.

Jazzlyn: When we motion to pass it's just for the t-shirts, etc., as well as Shreeman's motion to amend.

Do I hear any motions for this bill?

Veda: Motion to pas—amend.

Second: Cole Aye: [some people] Nay: Abstain:

Jazzlyn: This bill has been amended. Do I hear any other motions?

Jackson: Motion to pass. Second: Veda Aye: [some people] Nay: Abstain:

Jazzlyn: This bill has passed. Onto the trick-or-treat bill. …

trick-or-treating, also programming! (

masked person): Bill did go through the finance committee with positive recommendation.

one of the people we are workign with is 29th street, they reached out to us about haunted house on teh route for your trick-or-treating, we said great, students will have to pay $5 a piece to be admitted, so an additional incentive is taht we will apy for the first 100; if they don't want to that's okay, we counted that hte overall plannign is for 150 people, probably only 60-70 people will want to go and around 30% will say "let's not do that"

any thing i'm listening

kjjazz:

amy: motion for 2min 1speaking qa

second: jackson

amy: <question concerning>

peter, can you link the t-shirt design in the bill so i can show it

aarshi: you guys are trying to get first 100 ticket, only expecting 60-70 ppl

masked: misspoke; what i tried to say was we anticipate 150 ppl for the event, hope to have 100 tickets for free, 60%

jackson: to add to what amy says, it's important that sga has involvement in signing alternative logo, perchance in consultation with grace, someone else, i don't think we have a legislative reason we can't suspend if doesn't reach that standard

masked: if needs to be consulted with someone that's fine, but also want to have funding for talking to tote bags

jackson: with remaining gof minute

shreemann: doesn't

tola: are there different routes students will be taking? what is

masked: idea is that students will be staggered; we are hoping 15-20 people per group, will have to see; will be kind of a staggered progress. didn't want to overestimate the cost

natalie: a lot of people in college might not have costumes, so we will have things like headgear/decorations so we hope for a natural stagger

cole: what day is this planned for?

masked: 30th october

cole: just didn't see..

shreemann: expired

veda: motion to pass

shreeman, peter: second

peter: financia

cole: poi passed with

???: motion to pass
