Committees Purpose: Work on policy projects and objectives in their field Cross-disciplinary: Many projects require collaboration between committees, class councils and other student groups Composition: 7 Standing Committees Academic Affairs, Civic Engagement, Finance, Health, Safety, and Sustainability, Internal Affairs, Student Organizations, Student Services Ad-hoc committees Formed each semester on an as-need basis (ex: Spring 2016 International Students) by a ⅔ vote of the senate.
Committees Academic Affairs : Work with academic parts of University (Registrars, Student Advising, etc.) , the Deans of the schools to push student body academic desires/ programs, and work on anything related to Commencement, Convocation, etc. Civic Engagement: Promote civic engagement, activism, and engagement with the Baltimore community, and also collab with like-minded JHU groups, as well as work with OMA, SDS and OIE
Internal Affairs: VP is co-chair of Internal Affairs. Deal with internal matters of SGA, amendments to bylaws, constitution, and senate procedure, as well as CSE’s bylaws, and other governing board documents, recommend judicial nominees (and other SGA officials), facilitate impeachment proceedings, conduct ethical hearings for SGA members.
Committees Finance: Deal with financial matters of SGA (appropriations/funding), evaluate legislation that allocates funds, set SAC bylaws and collaborate with them, inform students of funding options Health, Safety, and Sustainability (HSS): Deal with safety and health matters related to student body, and sustainability issues and work with correlating offices and student groups (ex. VP of Facilities and Real Estate) Student Organizations: Meet with student groups leaders for recognition and funding, ensure inter-organization collab, work with CMC and SAC to help student orgs, ensure that University facilities are only used by appropriate organizations, ensure good standing of groups with admin, lay down protocols to be a Student org, work with admin offices to advance collaboration
Committees Student Services: Engage with the Student Body. Find out what improvements they want to their campus life experience. Open up communications with the student body, welcome their ideas, and make them happen. Ex. Student Forum, Late Night To-Go Boxes, & Suggestion Boxes
