An SGA Event Funding Bill

Act to Fund Civic Engagement Tabling on The National Day of Failure

Introduced by: Chairs Kirsten Amematsro and Tyler Turner of the Civic Engagement and Programming Committees Considered the day of 23rd in the month of September in the year 2025

SECTION 1. TITLE. This Act may be referred to as the “National Day of Failure Tabling Funding Bill”

SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS.

  1. SGA — The term “SGA” shall refer to the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.
  2. JHU, Hopkins - The terms “JHU” and “Hopkins” shall refer to the Johns Hopkins University.
  3. CEC – Civic Engagement Committee in SGA

SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.

  1. FINDINGS & PURPOSES
    1. Recognizing the need to support student well-being during a high-stress period leading into fall break.
    2. Foster community by encouraging students to share moments of failure alongside moments of pride.
    3. To shed light on the reality that failure is a shared experience and an essential part of the growth (see linked videos for potential content ideas: vid1, vid2).
    4. Promote Civic Engagement and SGA to the student body.
    5. Lay the groundwork for a potential larger-scale conversation in the future about the culture of failure and resilience at Hopkins if successful.
    6. Provide an open, inclusive event accessible to all students on campus.
    7. Tabling will occur on Monday, October 13th from 2pm-4pm on the Breezeway

SECTION 4. FUNDING OF ITEMS

  1. The total amount would be $500.00
  2. The Chair of Programming and CEC and other SGA volunteers will be distributing materials and running the event.

SECTION 5 . SEVERABILITY. Should any provision of this Act, an amendment made by this Act, or the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstance be held to be unconstitutional or , the remainder of this Act, the amendments made by this Act, and the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

Upon passage, we have hereunto set our hands and caused the seal of the Senate to be affixed to this bill indicating the Senate’s assent and thus officially designated the bill’s adoption as law.
