A Bill to Amend the SGA Constitution Concerning Procedural Matters

Be it enacted by the Senate of the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University assembled that: 

SECTION 1. TITLE.  This Act may be referred to as the “Secretary and Attendance Amendments to the SGA Constitution” 

SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS. 

  1. SGA — The term “SGA” shall refer to the Homewood Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.

SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES. 

  1. FINDINGS
    1. The current Constitution contains a constriction to the number of Assistant Secretaries of SGA.
  2. PURPOSES
    1. To amend the Constitution to correct the number of Assistant Secretaries allowed.
    2. Promote discussion of an additional Amendment whose motion for discussion had failed.

SECTION 4. CONSTITUTION AMENDMENTS.  Amendment 1 The original text of the section to be amended is as such:   d. Shall have the power to appoint an Assistant Secretary, subject to the confirmation of a ⅔ vote of the Senate.

The section will read, after amendment, as such:  d. Shall have the power to appoint as many Assistant Secretaries as necessary, all subject to the confirmation of a ⅔ vote of the Senate.

Amendment 2 The original text of the section to be amended is as such:  

  1. Attendance at Senate and Committee meetings is required of senators, and excused absences shall be granted at the discretion of the chair of the meeting for extenuating circumstances.
    1. If a member of the SGA misses 2 unexcused meetings per semester, they are automatically subject to impeachment.
    2. If the member misses a total of 4 unexcused meetings per semester, they are automatically removed from the SGA.

The section will read, after amendment, as such:

Upon passage, we have hereunto set our hands and caused the seal of the Senate to be affixed to this bill indicating the Senate’s assent and thus officially designated the bill’s adoption as law.
