A Resolution Thanking the Senior Class of 2025 for their Service to the SGA

Whereas this is an internal resolution that pertains to the Student Government Association (SGA) unto itself, rather than to the University at-large; and

Whereas the Student Government Association (SGA) members graduating this year are President of the Senate Nasreen Naqvi, Student Body Treasurer Brandon Benjamin, Senior Class President Angela Xiong, Latine Caucus Senator Cynthia Sanchez Hidalgo, KSAS Senator Danial Nabizadeh, WSE Senator Deryck Yin, Senior Class Senator Jennifer Tang-Cabrera, Senator Jordyn Craig-Schwartz, KSAS Senator Lucy Landry, Student Athlete Caucus Senator Molly Kuzma, WSE Senator Omar Gharib, WSE Senator Ryan Alezz, FLI Senator Sun Moon, and Religious/Spiritual Life Senator Zachary Bahar.

Whereas President of the Senate Nasreen Naqvi has been an integral part of Student government for four years, serving in various positions and acting as the President of the Senate for two years. Nasreen has spent countless hours working for students, relaying communications between administrators and students, and turning SGA’s culture around as a part of the executive board. Her leadership and her dedication to students will be missed for many students at this university.

Whereas Student Body Treasurer Brandon Benjamin has made remarkable contributions to SGA and the university. He has co-chaired the Finance Committee and served as a member of the Student Services, Student Organizations and Academic Affairs Committees and has organized successful sophomore, junior, and senior class events. He has helped review 300+ allocations, and distributed 320k in funds. Brandon has been vital in ensuring that SGA groups receive their allocations and works day in, day out for the support of all student organizations.

Whereas Latine Caucus Leader Cynthia Sanchez Hidalgo has served as a vital voice for all hispanic populations in Student Government. She has been vital to bringing Ole and other organizations to SGA for collaborations, representing student voices, and leading the charge for the resolution reaffirming SGA’s position on diversity in the student body.

Whereas Senior Class President Angela Xiong has worked diligently as the past Chair of the Committee for Civic Engagement, working with administrators and presenting various bills to encourage the collaboration between SGA and HopVotes, SNF Agora, and more to outreach to various campus partners. Angela is going to Harvard Dental School and we wish her a great journey from here on out.

Whereas Senior Class Senator Jennifer Tang-Cabrera has worked as a senator for the past two years, working to fight for student life experiences through her involvement on the programming board this year and serving as a vital part of the senior class committee.

Whereas Student Athlete Caucus Molly Kuzma has fought for more transparency for students, working to create the student athlete caucus on SGA, and addressing vital needs for athletes at Hopkins. Molly, through her three years in SGA, has served through many administrations and seen changes throughout the SGA.

Whereas KSAS Senator Danial Nabizadeh has served as a great companion in both HSS and Academic Affairs, bringing up many important points and always continuing to be a part of every conversation we have with administrators.

Whereas Senator Jordyn Craig-Schwartz has worked closely with student services and more involvements in her two years in SGA, most recently working on improving transportation to Bayview and other improvements around campus life.

Whereas Senator Ryan Alezz has joined Student Government and has constantly made sound points in meetings about improving the transparency of Student Government. Ryan has most recently worked closely as the Vice Chair of Student Organizations and has worked to include Muslim voices in SGA, increase SGA’s involvement with cosponsorships, and increase RSO funding transparency.

Whereas Religious/Spiritual Life Senator Zachary Bahar, KSAS Senator Lucy Landry, WSE Senator Omar Gharib, FLI Senator Sun Moon, WSE Senator Deryck Yin all joined Student Government in an effort to improve student life on campus in various ways.

Whereas the Senior Class has done amazing work this year, and we will miss them. Good luck in all your future endeavors, and we wish you luck!

Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Student Government Association thanks its graduating seniors for their unwavering devotion to the improvement of this University, the ingenuity they used over the past four years to address the challenges they faced, the example of leadership that they have set for student leaders for years to come, and the legacy that they leave across not only our campus but the city of Baltimore.

Be It Further Resolved that this resolution be held in the SGA archives in perpetuity.

The Resolution hereby PASSES by a vote of XX to XX with XX abstentions.

Upon adoption, we have hereunto set our hands and caused the seal of the Senate to be affixed to this resolution indicating the senate’s assent and thus officially designating the resolution’s adoption as the position and is will of the Senate and the Student Body of The Johns Hopkins University.
