Black Caucus Nominees

Tyler Turner Next year I will have the position of Class Programming Chair. The leadership skills that are vital for that position is reflective of what I would like to offer to this role as Black Caucus Chair. There is a necessity for more student engagement amongst the Black Community and my deepest desire is that this will happen! I will use stronger leadership and representation to make sure that as SGA sifts through its agenda the Black Community's voice is heard. I will make sure that Black Student community is funded to accomplish it's endeavors. Let's build the Black Community’s visibility and enhance our college experience!

Grace Aboagye I joined the Black Caucus groupchat because I wanted to be a voice for the black students of Hopkins. Some of the upperclassmen informed me that the position was unfilled and asked if I wanted to do it. I agreed and attempted to get votes the very last day of voting when thus was brought to my attention. Unfortunately I did not the the position but I would love to fill it because I want to represent the black students of Hopkins and bring change on this campus for us. I plan to listen to everyone and get things across to SGA in terms of concerns and requests. JHU is already a tough school. We should be able to have a forthcoming experience here especially with one another and be as comfortable as possible. I hope to be a unique voice for the blackjays and allow us to thrive as well as possible during our time in this campus.

Ja'Niyah Moore My name is Ja'Niyah Moore and I am a rising sophomore majoring in Public Health Studies with a double minor in Entrepreneurship and Management and Leadership Studies. I would be enlightened to serve as the Black Caucus for the 2023-2024 school year as I think it is crucial to have a black representative that can speak on behalf of black undergraduate students. Not only would I advocate for issues that affect our students at Hopkins but I would also try to bring a sense of unity within the caucuses of SGA. I want to make sure that our issues are getting properly addressed and that we are included in other decisions that are being made for Hopkins students.

Hispanic/LatinX Caucus Nominees

Sandy Monter-Casio Hi! My name is Sandy and I’m a rising sophomore from a small rural town on the eastern shore of Maryland. I'm a FLI student studying Sociology and Molecular and Cellular Biology. Outside of classes, I am an advising fellow in the Matriculate program for underrepresented high school students, a member of the Mexican American Student Association, a member of the Phi Mu sorority, and an upcoming FYM mentor for the 2023-2024 school year. My experience working with underrepresented high school students through the Matriculate program has given me a deeper understanding of the challenges and barriers that Latinx students may face when transitioning into college. Additionally, as the daughter of two Mexican immigrants, I have seen firsthand the importance of access to quality education and creating opportunities for marginalized communities. My passion for educational equity and community building drives me to advocate for the concerns of Latinx students, and I believe that serving as a Latinx representative for SGA would allow me to make a meaningful impact on campus.

Cynthia Sanchez Hidalgo Cynthia Sanchez Hidalgo is a rising Junior from Houston,Tx who is passionate about learning, the arts, and advocating for minorities and underrepresented communities. During the academic year, she works at the Office of Multicultural Affairs as a undergraduate programming intern and serves as Assistant Director of the Johns Hopkins Culture Show. This past year she served on the OLÉ E-board as Programming Director and helped lead efforts on the Latine Formal and ¡Reventon! She also works in the Johns Hopkins Film Centre and helps program professional film workshops. She is a very passionate individual with the confidence to voice her opinion and ideas as well as amplify those of others around her.

Media RSO Senator Nominees

Honor and Professional Society RSO Nominees

Rowan Mohamed - HERO As aforementioned, I’ve recently become Standby Coordinator for HERO which has been exciting, and involves a lot of planning and coordination internally within HEROs community of EMTs, equipment officers, and other leaders. A lot of external communication also happens with different campus organizations and offices requesting standby for a plethora of events and outings. I feel a new appreciation for the connections I’ve been able to make through this position, and for what I’ve learned about different offices and clubs on campus! I’d be interested in joining SGA to have stronger capabilities in facilitating similar planning and conversations both within professional clubs and societies, and between them. These connections will help embrace the goal of professionalism and understanding what and where we want to go in life. I’d be excited to join different groups together, ensure they are receiving the proper resources, and learn from other senate members on how to best make these types of connections with not only students, but also other JHU offices and executives.

Steven Doctorman - SHARE, MEDLIFE, Triple Helix My significant experience with professional-oriented RSOs makes me a strong fit to represent these organizations in the SGA. As co-president of SHARE, I manage both volunteering and shadowing at Johns Hopkins Hospital for a substantial number of JHU students, both of which are essential for pre-medical students to meet their professional goals. My previous work as the shadowing director with SHARE also gave me hands-on skills of coordinating between professionals and students to create opportunities for clinical experience. Furthermore, my leadership at MEDLIFE and contributions to Triple Helix provided me with a nuanced view of professional development by introducing me to new and diverse perspectives of medicine, such as a global view of medicine and ethically oriented scientific writing. Beyond these clubs, I consistently serve as a source of guidance for underclassmen and regularly meet with students that reach out with questions about my progression through the pre-medical development. My unique combination of leadership, engagement directly with the community, and experience with the process would allow me to work within SGA to represent honor and professional RSOs by giving me a clear understanding of the wants and needs of pre-professional students and the leadership, teamwork, and coordination skills intrinsically required to an SGA position.
