READ THIS!!! {#read-this!!!}

[Important Reminders for Attendees] {#[important-reminders-for-attendees]}

  • They should bring laptops or other electronics to work on (charged!!!)! There’ll be lots of fun-time for sure, but we’ll also have opportunities to jump-start initiatives and other collaborations!
  • They should dress in business casual! The pictures we take during the retreat may end up being the face of SGA for the coming year through social media, etc.!
  • Attendees must be seated by 11 am! So that we can get started on time!

Here’s Why We’re Doing This {#here’s-why-we’re-doing-this}

[Goals for the Retreat] {#[goals-for-the-retreat]}

  1. Have fun!!! Because the Fall leadership retreat was not mandatory, the 111th SGA has not yet had an opportunity to bond as a team – a critical experience, especially considering how big we’ve grown!
  2. Connect team members with each other! Our greatest strength is our ability to run collaborative initiatives and work cohesively as a team - it’s good for us to know who we can reach out to and how we can collaborate!
  3. Help the team understand all the responsibilities SGA (and they specifically, depending on their role) has been entrusted with by the Student Body! SGA has so many responsibilities, it’s hard for any one person to keep track – let’s get to know what we and the rest of SGA do!
  4. Help team members identify resources or channels of support so that they can better pursue goals!
  5. Help team members brainstorm new ideas and initiatives to take on in the coming year!

President] An exploration of why SGA passed legislation to expand the size of SGA (and restructure it) in the Spring of 2022 and why the Executive branch has grown to be so big – and where we’re headed next.

11:05

[Fun] Who’s in SGA??? Sticky Note Intros [Angela S - WSE Senator] Each attendee writes three conversation prompts or questions on three sticky notes. Attendees circulate through the room, asking the questions and prompts to people - once a question is asked, the sticky note is exchanged Every time a sticky note is transferred, theory should sign the sticky note An emphasis is placed on meeting as many new people as possible

11:25

[Focus] Yup – PPTs!!! SGA Roll Call! [Ryan - S.B. President, Committee Chairs] Present! A revisiting of the SGA Committees and Commissions, what they do, and why they do it. Where’s the Money? [Jenny - S.B. Treasurer] A review of SGA’s half-million-dollar budget and historical financial trends – and our responsibilities to the student body. Event Programming: Cracking the Code [Shalala - S.B. Chair of Programming] A byte-sized guide into the past, present, and future of SGA Programming. The Judiciary and the CSE??? [Luc Mazzanobile - Chief Justice; Nubaira Milki - Chair of the CSE] How the Judicial branch and the Committee on Student Elections has strengthened themselves in the past year, and how they plan to run the Spring elections, and why the Spring elections matter

12:40

[Fun] Fun Time!!! Identity Bingo [Angela S - WSE Senator] Each attendee is given a checklist (physical paper sheet) that is effectively a people scavenger hunt Attendees circulate through the room and try to find people that match the items on the checklist (e.g., has a dog, fav color is green, plays an instrument, etc) First (few) attendees to complete their checklist shout “Bingo” [prizes for winner(s)]

12:50

Aka the “Forehead word game” [Angela S - WSE Senator] - Group 1 Somebody writes a word on a name tag without showing it to the rest of the group The word is placed on another group member’s forehead without them seeing the text All other group members attempt to (silently) act out the word for the member with the note on their forehead to try to guess the word or person Once completed, a different person takes a turn Two truths and a lie - Group 2 Game in the same way that it is always played Each group will play internally - then select the person’s they believe is most difficult - they enter the final round between all the groups
