SECTION 1. TITLE. This Act may be referred to as the “Umbrella Loaner Initiative”
SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS.
- SGA — The term “SGA” shall refer to the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.
- JHU, Hopkins - The terms “JHU” and “Hopkins” shall refer to the Johns Hopkins University.
SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES. FINDINGS & PURPOSES:
- We all know that our campus is not the most enjoyable place to navigate when it rains. Students often arrive to class with their backpacks wet and hoods drenched. As spring slowly approaches, the rainy season will be right on its tail.
- With that being said, one thing that a lot of students could benefit from is an umbrella loaner program. Many students do not own an umbrella and end up walking between classes in the pouring rain. The wind can also be an issue for students, even for some of them who may have lower-quality umbrellas. Additionally, students end up losing their umbrellas or they end up breaking, and the weather can be unpredictable and out of our control. Subsequently, if a student does not have an umbrella to use and a rainstorm is coming up in a few days, they can fill out a request on our form and pick up an umbrella for the time being.
- This would also result in less wet seats and wet tables. Ultimately, we hope that this umbrella loaner program can help provide a more convenient option for all students and especially support students who may not have immediate access to an umbrella.
- Students can sign up and request to borrow an umbrella by using this form: https://forms.gle/CcihzCfAcRn66xLW6
- This initiative will be student run and primarily organized by the Student Services Committee. I will take responsibility for checking the Google Form daily and Student Services Committee members will rotate responsibilities throughout the week and will earn attendance incentives.
