Committee Updates
Academic Affairs
Initiatives: FA Advising event Sample major pathways Credit overloading Survey Policy adjustment proposal Tablings Fall (with Tyler’s Pancake Day event) Spring (survey, plushies, candies) Course Manuals, more textbooks in libraries Goals for next year Continue tabling, of course More outdoor seating Standardized grading Synchronized midterms Good teaching practices Advice for incoming chair Hold meetings regularly Stand firm and keep pushing if possible Publicize initiatives
Civic Engagement Goals for 2025-2026 J-Cash printing Initiative Increased social media presence Increased student participation in elections Advocating for alumni interviews Reforming CSE (mid-year goal) Progress on the goals or initiatives Ran into a few roadblocks that delayed some initiatives (ex: Jcash) Some never started! (alumni inrterviews, my fault) Some co-opted Social media presence Sleep pods initiative Advice for the incoming committee chair Please be engaged and committed Upcoming election year so LOTs to do to engage student body Shreeman’s initiative is exciting and bring much needed direction to the CEC. Thus a chair that won’t write CEC off is needed Call people/thinigs out. Ask questions Ex: CSE reform would’ve never happened if I didn’t complain to POS I, now being promoted to member of general public will continue to call everyone out Just make Vice Chair take minutes but do occasional quality checks Advocate for in person meetings with the occasion of hybrid. Not other way around Keep our advisor, Willow Goode in the loop. She’s the goat Goals for 2026-2027 Even more engagement with the student body Implementation of Shreeman’s idea Continue to push for CSE reforms (recommendations doc attached)
Committee on Student Organizations Things accomplished for 2025-2026 Met with RSOs Set up RSO meetings – Town Halls Identified some inactive RSOs / helped with concerns regarding re-registration
Advice for the incoming CSO chair Have a lot more meetings at the beginning of the semester to set everything up; First few meetings to set up goals and make deadlines for those goals Spend first two meetings coordinating meeting times with RSOs Try to get things started early so there can be room for fun activities Goals for 2026-2027 Potential ideas: Spotlight Fridays, SGA Talent Show Continue meeting w RSOs Making sure that the contact info is up to date Making sure that HopkinsGroups is up to date
Finance Goals for 2025-2026 Organize budget reviews better Do more tablings to increase our reach to student body Gain more experience in RSO funding Progress on the goals or initiatives Guideline revisions will be done by next week Workshop… Advice for the incoming committee chair Be more strict with time and energy Be more effective at motivating people to lock in and do their work on time independently Would really like to see a more public / transparent component to the work that finance does Goals for 2026-2027 Communicate with student groups often and clearly Coordinate with Crystal / LEED to anticipate or negotiate deadlines and financial policies Improve our internal bills system Better funding for categories we see requested a lot but typically reject — i.e. GBM snacks, club merch. Show up as a mentor Would also like to add that technically the treasurer and committee chair are co-chairs! :) AX Notes (3/31)
- likely need to allocate more towards semesterly allocations, event grant allocations were ~$30k each semester
- contrary to what we thought, that spring was going to be more costly than fall
- almost perfect budgeting for bills!!
- recall amount between $40-60k, which is bad, but mostly due to late allocations in fall --> how do we mitigate this in the future? At the same time, if we didn't have the recall, we would also technically be overbudget by ~$5k (as of 3/31), so maybe it's a good thing
Health, Safety, and Sustainability
Internal Affairs Goals for 2025-2026 Bring the Constitution up to date Bring the Bylaws up to date Ensure Senators know about Robert’s Rules Ideally, no impeachments or investigations requests Progress on goals Updated both the Constitution and Bylaws (finally) No impeachments nor investigations! Honestly, this is a pretty low bar but I’m glad this SGA session was non-controversial, at least for IA Continuing on informing Senators of Robert’s Rules Advice for the incoming committee chair Read over the Constituion, Bylaws, Robert’s Rules Ensure the SGA follows the guiding documents If possibly, always try to find ways to improve the SGA functioning and structure Get well soon Jaden : This term: By-Laws Update Constitution Elections Update Roberts rules presentations early in the term Most of our actions are “learning from SGA’s mistakes” Future: Having an official parliamentarian New member onboarding more clear More accountability for SGA members
