113th Senate Committee on Civic Engagement

Date: 9 November 2025 Time: 2:32 - 2:54pm Location: Zoom Present: Chair Kirsten Amematsro, Vice Chair Alan Perez, Karen Valezquez Luna, Omotola Alaofin, Caraline Sommer, Avi Liu, Jingyan Zhang Absent (Excused): Ava Florres Absent (Unexcused):

Meeting began at 2:32pm

Kirsten: First order of business. Thursday debrief! The meeting went well with Graham and Tiffany. We’re not going to have free printing due to environmental and funding reasons. However, we looked at students who are outliers in how often they print. We can work with that population of students. The next meeting is going to be sometime after thanksgiving and prior to it we as a committee should have a plan. Avi: Additionally, in the meeting they liked the idea of having an application for students to request additional printing credits, to be used as a case-by-case approach. Kristen: Also, a few numbers were given to the meeting. Data of how many people are using the printing credits. 53% of students (80% FLI Students). Middle eastern studies, classics, chemistry, & MechE, e.t.c of students use 70% + of the printing credits. While 53% of students use printing, 47% of students don't, so we need to find a plan that’s financially sound (due to the budget not rolling over) to distribute printing credits to those students who need it. So, we must:

  • Brainstorm on how we can make this printing credit initiative financially stable & sustainable.

Karen: Gave the following idea: “I think maybe the student workers (the desk staff at like commons or something) could look into the like application for more credits, gives them more hours and also can make it so more people have contact with library services”
