Minutes
- Report from Brandon about Finance
- Tabling and transportation for the retreat will be put in the budget along with JayGames. We have 8900 USD left.
- Brandon will update Tim about the catering. He didn’t get any updates.
- Stone said that Jessica ordered catering from Ekiben.
- Charles confirmed that Ekiben had been ordered. Tim has been informed.
- RSO Communications
- Clubs have been emailing executive board members. Stone is aware that it might be hard for Brandon to keep up with all of them. Stone asked if Brandon had an idea about this, suggesting that maybe Oluwakemi could email these people.
- Brandon said that we should work on the liaison for the Finance Committee and determine who will deal with what. Working with Oluwakemi sounds reasonable to him. Stone will message Brandon whenever someone reaches out to him.
- Stone asked if Brandon thinks the Finance Committee would be able to answer questions coming from the students or would they rather tell the clubs to reach out to Brandon. Brandon thinks it depends on the member.
- Stone said that maybe we can write sample responses to ease the workload and those can be sent whenever they receive a question.
- Amy messaged Brandon to tell him that a club is having registration problems. Their issue is that they are not able to view their club as listed. Amy asked how we can proceed with this, questioning whether we should reach out to Charles and Jessica. Brandon said that he’s not familiar with registration even though he tried to figure it out. Charles and Jessica or Shruti would be the best to reach out. Brandon said that if they haven’t been around for at least two semesters, that might be the problem. Amy told Charles about this RSO and asked if he could fix it. Charles asked if they submitted an allocation and Brandon said no. However, Brandon pointed out that maybe they couldn’t submit an allocation because they couldn’t register.
- A freshman running for class president informed Stone that he’s having a problem with uploading videos and images. Charles asked this person to reach out to Jessica.
- Charles asked if we got all the budgets uploaded. Brandon said that not all of them were uploaded yet. He’s trying to get all of them done today. Charles said that a lot of clubs have been asking him and asked Brandon if his committee is not helping him, to which Brandon responded no.
- Charles asked who’s on HSS. Buse sent the list.
- University won’t do Capital Day this year, where they would take the students to the capital. Charles tried to get them to plan it, but it takes more planning as it hasn’t been done before, yet it might happen next semester. Charles will let Jackson and Angela know.
- Attendance Progress Update – Buse
- Buse will check the bill that was passed regarding unexcused attendance procedures after the meeting.
- Buse will make an announcement at the GBM asking for people to help her code the attendance sheet..
- Admin Invite to GBMs – Nas
- Stone was planning to ask Nasreen who had been invited to the GBM. He knows that Nasreen sent two emails: Hopkins Dining and Barnes & Noble. No responses were received, yet they followed up with Hopkins Dining. Cynthia will invite the Admissions Office and there will be a library meeting next week. Stone will send more emails.
- Initiatives
- Storage solution for RSOs (Due to Wyman Park construction, lack of closet space, lack of student center, etc.)
- Brandon asked Charles a question first. He received this request from the Sustainable Hopkins Innovation Project, who traditionally store their stuff at Wyman, but had to move because of construction. They don’t have any other places to put their stuff, so Brandon asked if there are any storage places they can use, to which Charles responded that there isn’t such a place. Charles thinks that they should talk to their advisors. The idea of subsidizing a nearby storage unit and its feasibility was discussed.
- Bringing Brittani into this conversation was considered. University thinks that students need to get their club funds and find a place themselves. Since this RSO is a charitable organization, Brandon wasn’t sure if it would be a good move to ask them to do that. Brittani will be back on Wednesday, so we will talk to her.
- Stone said that if the University can’t sponsor this, we can have a separate event category for storage. If this was done, it would be so positively responded to. Since not every RSO needs it, it can be given to a certain number of clubs if they request a sponsored place.
- Brandon will announce it at the next GBM.
- Meeting with admissions regarding racial+ethnic breakdowns for first-years
- The Hub released new admission data, which shows decrease in underrepresented groups. There were a lot of concerns and SGA representatives wanted to meet with admissions. Cynthia is reaching out. Beyond admissions, the next problem is if underrepresented students are feeling supported, which is important to consider to strengthen the community and avoid dropouts from disadvantaged groups.
- Amy said that a lot of organizations want to talk about this, so if we invite admissions, we can also invite representatives from these underrepresented groups and they can ask their questions.
- Brandon asked if we could have this as a town hall where people can discuss these with the admin. Amy believes this would be helpful.
- Stone asked Brandon to work with Cynthia on this.
- Stone has some personal initiatives but he’ll share them during the GBM.
- Stone will have a one-on-one meeting with Buse and Brandon.
- Storage solution for RSOs (Due to Wyman Park construction, lack of closet space, lack of student center, etc.)
