112th Senate Committee on Civic Engagement

Date: 13 October 2024 Time: 12:00-12:30pm Location: CSC, 3rd floor

ATTENDANCE: Present: Chair Angela Xiong, Ethan Edelstein, Priya Agrawal, Lucy Landry Excused absences: Sumire Sumi, Yonatanne Desta Unexcused absences: Cynthia Hidalgo-Sanchez

AGENDA:

  1. Updates from last week
    1. Chair connected organizers from last year’s Hill Day
      1. Currently waiting on a response to see if CE committee could sit in on one of their meetings/organizers could sit in on CE meeting
    2. Waiting on update on how the CSC calendar events went
    3. Discussed potential event in a debate format on AI topics
  2. Presentation to SGA by Chair
    1. Chair will present to SGA on 15 October 2024 on SNF Angora events
    2. Discussion of how SGA can become involved
      1. Senators can have input on speakers for events
      2. Ask to what extent senators want to promote these events / attend
    3. Discussion on volunteer opportunities for SGA members in these events
  3. Democracy and Freedom Festival
    1. Discussion on having a breakout session on how to run and be a candidate
  4. Advocacy day(s)
    1. Discussion of CE committee’s policy interests for this event
      1. Youth involvement, mental well-being, college student rights
    2. Discussion on the possibility of two advocacy days
      1. Education policy focused, rather than science policy focused
        1. CE committee would work with other undergraduates
  5. Discussion on adjustment of CE committee meeting times to speak with other organizations the committee would like to get involved with
  6. No meeting on 20 October 2024
