Minutes

  1. Admin GBM update–Nas
    1. Over the break, Nasren has been compiling a list of admins to be invited to the meetings. Once emails are approved, they will be invited. Chief of Staff will give construction updates and they will visit the SGA meetings three times. IT will visit, too.
    2. We’re trying to get as many admins to visit the meetings as possible. Nasreen hopes to send these emails this week so that they can come as soon as possible.
    3. It was highlighted that there are raising concerns about the executive branch micromanaging the senate. Nasreen stated that the agenda shouldn’t be the executive branch’s primary focus. She advised the executive board to focus on construction and advocate for student experience, and to focus more on getting admins to visit than engage with senate work. Next meeting’s agenda items include going over the policy and some freshmen presenting initiatives.
    4. Buse will remind on Teams about the excused absence rules.
    5. Nasreen will finalize the list and make a bullet point list to show it to the senate. Drafts of the admin invite emails are going out today. Lee Hawthorne will visit the SGA meetings three times this semester. The Registrar and Johns Hopkins Real Estate Department will also visit. Tarini has been working with the Registrar. Elisabeth Long will also come to talk about the MSE construction and other library initiatives.
  2. Finance update–Brandon
    1. 12,865 USD is left in the discretionary budget for the entire year. Allocations will be finished today at the meeting.
  3. Upcoming Events–Tim
    1. Tim is planning the Speed Dating Event with Stone and Amy. A bill will need to be passed.
    2. He’s also working on a fundraiser on behalf of SGA for mental health society.
    3. The Spring Retreat will be similar to a networking event. He’s working with Annie Koogle from the Alumni Office. There will be an SGA Alumni Dinner.
    4. If you know how to get in contact with some of the SGA alumni, let Tim know.
  4. Student Body Email–Stone
    1. Student Body email will hopefully be sent out pretty soon. Vishnu sent extensive updates. Every senator should mention the changes they brought that semester for them to be included in the email.
  5. Next Meeting with Pres. Daniels
    1. There isn’t a meeting scheduled for now; we will meet with Brittani Brown and Rachelle Hernandez. On February 10th, Lee Hawthorne will join. There were questions about the New York trip to present to the Board of Trustees. Charles said that those who are going should be in LaB at 5:15 AM; at 6:20 AM, the train will leave.
    2. There will be a Storytelling Event. Other than that, there will probably be one more meeting with President Daniels this semester. There could be more depending on his availability. President Daniels is not in Baltimore as he is still abroad. He will probably be back in March. Stone and Charles talked about this during their one-on-one meeting.
  6. Exec Meeting Times–Change?
    1. It was expressed that as long as the meetings end reasonably for 9 AMs, this time works for everyone.
    2. Charles said that we should meet outside of this meeting time to plan out the Board of Trustees meeting. The Student Life committee will be there. We need to choose three topics to share.
    3. Last year, Nasreen said that they had frequent presentation practices. She still has the PowerPoint from last year. The executive board will discuss this tomorrow night after the GBM. We will choose three of our greatest accomplishments and initiatives. It will be a 10 minute presentation.
