AN SGA EVENT FUNDING BILL

ACT TO FUND LOOKING FOR A JAYFRIEND

INTRODUCED BY: CHAIR TYLER TURNER OF THE PROGRAMMING COMMITTEES

CONSIDERED THE DAY OF 20 IN THE MONTH OF JANUARY IN THE YEAR 2026

SECTION 1. TITLE. This Act may be referred to as the “Speeding Dating Program.”

SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS. (a) SGA — The term “SGA” shall refer to the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.

(b) JHU, Hopkins - The terms “JHU” and “Hopkins” shall refer to the Johns Hopkins University.

SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.

1. To replace the February tabling event with an interactive, campus-wide social engagement program.
2. To provide an inclusive, low-pressure environment for students to explore connection and community.
3. To promote student interaction through structured activities and creative stations.
4. To increase student participation in February programming through experiential engagement rather than passive outreach.
5. To ensure the event is open to all students regardless of relationship status, identity, or intent.
6. Who doesn’t want a speed dating event?
7. Logistics:
   1. Have people have stickers of what they’re looking for
   2. Have a list of questions for people to have, so then they can ask
8. Expecting around 100 people, with a possible rotation in the middle to get new people

SECTION 4. FUNDING OF ITEMS

(a) The total amount would be 994.08

SECTION 5. SEVERABILITY. Should any provision of this Act, an amendment made by this Act, or the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstance be held to be unconstitutional, or the remainder of this Act, the amendments made by this Act, and the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

UPON PASSAGE, WE HAVE HEREUNTO SET OUR HANDS AND CAUSED THE SEAL OF THE SENATE TO BE AFFIXED TO THIS BILL INDICATING THE SENATE’S ASSENT AND THUS OFFICIALLY DESIGNATED THE BILL’S ADOPTION AS LAW.
