New Business

  • Admin from Health Promotion and Well-Being (Caress R.)

Srigouri: October 23rd is the day of the tabling for Health Education Week. Hoping the Health Promotion and Well Being office can give informational flyers. In the process of ordering items. We want to have a trivia activity and students are put into a raffle for an air purifier if they get the question right. We are interested in getting health information packers, specifically sexual health. Tanisha: Interested in collaborating with APTT and Wings. Waiting to hear back from Wings and APTT is interested in helping. Caress: Confirmed that this is only one time thing. What are some other topics of health education that should be promoted? Sun: Washing hands, using hand sanitizer. Caress: Important to have information around the items that are being given out. Jacquelyn: For the senior class, maybe we can include something related to burn out as they are applying to grad school and maintaining health. Caress: Reach out to the Career Office. Could offer information about our office and raise awareness about health education. Will trivia be the main activity? Srigouri: Trivia will be the main event as we only have one table reserved. Students can pass by and pick up items and answer trivia questions. Caress: Incentives are different from giveaways? Are you expected to give anything else? Srigouri: Those are the main things. Maybe we can get other items from Health and Wellness. They will hopefully provide hand sanitizer and they said they can potentially have a doctor at the tabling event to answer questions, especially related to respiratory illness. Caress: I like this idea. For trivia questions, we can focus on the resources on campus. An example would be “who would you contact for sexual health?” Come up with topics that you want to focus on. How are you going to conduct trivia? Srigouri: We were planning to do a spin-the-wheel activity. The item that stops the wheel is broken. Does your office have a wheel that we can borrow? Caress: We might have a wheel at the office. Anisha: If we can’t find the wheel, we could also use a fish bowl and put questions in there. Caress: I like the idea of real trivia. We can maybe have different categories with questions in each. We can wait until there are 3 people at the table and the students can buzz in to answer. If there are specific incentives that you want people to win, we can help cover that. Srigouri: I think we are good on incentives. We will have the two air purifiers. We ordered hand sanitizer, tissue packs, EmergenC. But we did not order as many as we would like (30–40 of each). If there are items in the office to give away, that would be helpful. Caress: We can offer some sleep kits. We have safer sex supplies that are available (condoms with lube). We can have a code to request more specialty sex supplies. We also have vintage shirts. Srigouri: We will not need the vintage shirts. Caress: I will give the sleep kits and safer sex supplies. Can give 50 total. Can check if we have the wheel for trivia. We have health packs for condoms, pleasure information, how to use safer sex supplies. Srigouri: We are expecting around 120 people to show up. It’s on the breezeway and there is a lot of traffic. If people don’t take an item, they might want the information flyer around it. For the trivia questions, it would be cool to make it as Hopkins-focused as we can. Jacquelyn: Maybe we can include a question about where health centers are located. Caress: I like that idea. I can send you data (specifically alcohol data) and you guys can make the questions. I can also send NCHA data. You can also ask questions about the differences between resources. When will the trivia questions be done? Srigouri: We can work on that during our next meeting (10/11) and our next meeting will be during fall break. Caress: You can work on that 10/11 and before you leave for fall break, you (Srigouri) and I can meet during fall break. We can determine a time when we can meet to drop off the supplies. I’m happy to help out with this event. I will send the data and will wait after 10/11 for any information.

  • Updates from clubs
    • No one has heard back from any clubs
    • APTT: interested in collaborating and want us to be involved in Sip & Self Care
  • Tabling event finalization
    • Doctor from Health and Wellness will be at the event
    • Asked for help with trivia questions from primary care (HelWell)
    • Trivia: could have categories on the wheel
      • Each member of HSS makes 3 questions (8 people) = 24 questions
      • Could make the categories correspond to the colors on the wheel
      • Fish bowl idea (if there is no wheel): students choose a number 1-24 and we read the corresponding question
    • Only have one table booked for the Breezeway
    • Tablecloth: Srigouri will bring one from home
      • SGA tablecloth is gone
    • SGA component (surveys): not needed because we already have lots of activities
  • Future event: health promotion event with surveys focusing on improving health resources at Hopkins

New Business

  • Feedback from tabling event
    • What went well:
      • Very successful overall
      • Lots of attendance
      • 70 people filled out the air purifier form
      • People asked the physicians questions
      • Physicians’ feedback: enjoyed getting formal feedback from students and interacting with the students
        • Asked if we could help promote them with other events and are interested in helping with future events
    • Improvements
      • Have standardization for the questions (to ensure that there is increasing difficulty for the 5 questions to receive the massage gun)
        • Massage guns/shirts were given out too easily due to lack of standardization
          • Need to follow up with Brandon/LEED to ensure items are arriving on time
      • Some questions were phrased badly (ex: upperclassmen vs underclassmen question)
      • Obtain items that represent SGA
        • Tablecloth/poster board
        • SGA shirts (however, difficult to get this)
        • Magnetic pins with SGA logo
      • Did not have wheel from Primary Care
        • However, having a wheel might have made the event more difficult and crowded
      • Have more bigger prizes in the future
        • Could be a possibility for bigger tabling
      • The QR code for the Air Purifier Giveaway should be more hidden
        • Because the QR codes were on plastic holders, students often scanned the QR code to enter the giveaway before meeting the threshold (answer 1 question correctly) to actually be entered in the giveaway
    • Left Over Items for Future Use
      • Hand sanitizers from Primary Care
      • All the online items (tissues, EmergenC, stickers, hand sanitizer)
  • Updates
    • SARU: Karen and Srigouri have been in contact with SARU
      • Want SGA to help fund their event at the end of November (Speaker Event: Lexi Bean - trans multimedia artist from the Midwest)
        • SARU is not funded by SGA and not re-registered by LEED
          • Might be difficult to transfer money
        • Brandon said we can still fund their event
        • SARU is under Homewood Department Student Organizations
        • Srigouri will attend their E-Board meeting on Sunday and they can present their co-sponsorship bill at GBM on Tuesday (an event grant might not be possible because they are not under SGA for funding)

        • SARU wants us to repost the flyer on Instagram and spread the word

      • APTT: Have not gotten any new responses, unsure if they still want help for their Sip & Self Care Event

JHU Student Government Committee on Health, Safety, and Sustainability - Meeting with Caress 14 October 2024 / Minutes By: Tanisha Taneja / Location: Virtual

Presented trivia questions to Caress Caress: Love the questions and the percentages (might be hard to guess but will be fun). Will be quick with the spin wheel. Srigouri: Primary care will provide 8-9 more questions. Will keep the numbers on the wheel - if someone spins a 1, you can ask one of these 4 questions. Caress: You can also color code the wheel for questions. Srigouri: Maybe had a condom giveaway or have sleep kits (from Caress). We will also take some health information packets or promote any future workshops from your office. Caress: I can provide safer sex supplies and information on how to order more, and I can provide 40 sleep kits. We are launching NCHA on the 21st and it will be open for 3 weeks and you guys can promote that. It would be helpful to take this information to all student clubs. It would be helpful doing an incentive but it is hard for that because it is confidential. We will be providing some incentives, such as Garmin watches in a raffle. I also have some information to provide to SGA. Caress: What are your next steps? Srigouri: Follow up with primary care and the items we ordered. Tanisha was able to get a list of who is volunteering. I can pick up the items from your office that morning. Is there any way I can borrow one of your carts for the breezeway? Caress: Yes, as long as you bring it back. On Wednesday, I will be gone, but I can have it ready on Tuesday. What time will you come on Wednesday? SrigourI; I can come between 10 -11, closer to 10. Caress: I will put 10-10:30 on my calendar and I will let Megan know about the pick up. What time would you bring it back? Srigouri: Probably 3:30 because the tabling ends at 3. Caress: I will reach out on 21st or 22nd about the cart being ready.
