Notes
- Report from Brandon about Finance
- In our discretionary, we have 17,201.00 USD. He said that Student Affairs covered Ekiben, so that won’t come out of our budget. He also said that Finance has been doing well and that they have been responding to RSOs and he has been answering concerns.
- Stone asked how we are doing compared to last year. Brandon said that he is not sure as Jenny didn’t keep a record outside of Hopkins groups. Stone might ask Jenny to learn.
- RSO Communication Expectations - Tim
- Tim said that the workshop went well but that a majority of the RSOs did not get the announcement email.
- Charles said that it is probably because they unsubscribed in the past. Tim said that his friends who are subscribed to emails also didn’t get the emails, so Tim asked for a better way to contact RSOs.
- Charles pointed out that he was not even supposed to send this email and that he only sent it as a favor. Tim suggested asking the RSO senators to deal with this from now on. He suggested creating a group with all the representatives.
- Stone asked him to clarify how he is supposed to send emails to RSOs if only LEED can do it and if there are no tags on Hopkins Groups. Charles responded that that could be resolved with a listserv, which was something he was planning to talk to us about today.
- Charles said that when people were coming to Brandon about not getting any communications that might also have been because they were not subscribed to communications. He added that there used to be a listserv, which is no longer updated and that it would be created during re-registration.
- Charles will give us the list and we will keep it updated.
- Construction Update & Next Steps - Stone and Charles
- President Daniels agreed to have a meeting with us on November 4th. A source near President Daniels said that the tuition reduction won’t happen. Around October 20th, Stone will send another email to the student body highlighting what the administration should be doing and reminding the students of the issue. He’ll also let them know about the future meeting.
- Charles pointed out that the email should detail some of the advances that have been made and point out the progress.
- Tim asked why they said no to tuition reduction, to which Charles said that they don’t know for sure. He believes that we should find a different argument to get tuition reduction and mention something that has a permanent negative effect.
- Tuesday GBM Agenda Overview - Nasreen
- Diversity Admissions Resolution by Nayshawn and Cynthia
- Stone said Charles said they are interested in sending out an email calling for a town hall to talk about the diversity issue in the admissions meeting.
- Brandon has been working with them. He believes that it is important for us to make our sentiment obvious as RSOs who represent these underrepresented groups took notice that we sent out a resolution for the MSE renovation yet didn’t speak out about this.
- Stone doesn’t think resolution is the best way to go with this. He thinks that this can be added to an SGA update email and that we can invite administrators to the meeting.
- Charles believes that we should have conversations first, and then send out a resolution if necessary.
- Buse said that the interview with The News-Letter won’t be made by her and that the editors-in-chief want to do it as a semesterly update.
- Brandon doesn’t think a resolution is the only way to go with it. He just wants to get something out there to show that we are working on this. Nasreen was thinking about having a closed session where representatives can voice their concerns. Then, we can release a press notice on Instagram saying we had an internal town hall. She thinks that this would also empower the senators.
- Stone pointed out that we all agree that a resolution by itself is not necessary yet we should show that we are working on this.
- Nasreen pointed out that last year we invited RSOs for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, so we can do something similar this year.
- Stone asked Nasreen to add a 5 minute agenda item to non-legislative business about dining.
- Since Nasreen will be absent in the next meeting, Srigouri will lead the meeting on October 22nd. Tim asked if we need to onboard Srigouri, to which Nasreen said that she’s confident that Srigouri will be able to lead the meeting.
- For tomorrow’s GBM, there will be a speaker, Srigouri’s Wellness Day, Oluwakemi’s parking initiative, and Angela’s civic engagement updates about a democracy event. Nobody sent anything yet.
- Diversity Admissions Resolution by Nayshawn and Cynthia
- Vacancies email - Nasreen
- The email will go out today after 2 PM. Nasreen said that she is planning to discuss these during the next GBM and get these positions filled as soon as possible. Programming is a separate email due to the different requirements to be in programming.
- Stone asked if they can’t be combined. Nasreen believes that three applications in an email might not be the best as people don’t understand what SGA exactly is while applying anyways. She wants to make sure we can highlight what the positions entail by sending separate emails.
- Amy asked why we are using Google Forms rather than Microsoft Forms or Hopkins Groups on the applications. Nasreen said that CSE and Luc prepared the form. Tim said that he has access to the form and that he can turn it into a Microsoft Form.
- Tim said that the Junior Class Senator Election is technically a special election, yet he believes that it is not that important.
- Stone thanked Nasreen for her efforts.
- Buse pointed out that there is also one vacancy in the Senior Class Council, which will be added to the email.
- Stone will probably choose someone for the judiciary so that they can fill their vacancies.
- Initiatives - Stone
- Hopkins Dining Discussion (Christopher for GBM)
- They will come on October 29th. He will make sure Matthew Moss will also make it to the meeting. He is hoping to address the concerns then. Since he has a meeting for that GBM, he asks one of the executive board members to represent what he was going to point out during that meeting.
- Construction email? Surveillance Camera email
- Tim said that people are complaining about the cameras (especially the one in Freshman Quad as it points to AMR 2). Charles is also curious about the cameras. He said that there will be an email coming out about them. An email will be drafted and sent out.
