An SGA Funding Bill

Act to Fund Alumni Meet & Greet initiative

SECTION 1. TITLE. This Act may be referred to as the “Alumni Meet & Greet Initiative.”

SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS.

1. SGA – The term “SGA” shall refer to the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.
2. JHU, Hopkins – The terms “JHU” and “Hopkins” shall refer to the Johns Hopkins University.

SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.

1. The SGA recognizes the importance of fostering strong, meaningful connections between current freshmen students and the JHU alumni.
2. Traditional networking events often lack the structure necessary to facilitate deep conversations. This initiative aims to improve upon past formats by providing a highly interactive, speed-mentoring, and coffee-chat-style environment to enhance student-alumni engagement.
3. The purpose of this event is to provide freshmen students with a dedicated space for one-on-one and small-group discussions, which allow them to build authentic, long-lasting professional relationships and continued mentorship that extends beyond the initial meeting.
4. This event is co-hosted with the Life Design Lab. The event will open with a brief educational presentation titled “Networking: The Art of Conversation.” After the presentation, there will be an informal networking reception with light refreshments, followed by a more structured, formal conversation between students and alumni.

SECTION 4. FUNDING OF ITEMS

The total amount would be $1,253.91

SECTION 5. SEVERABILITY. Should any provision of this Act, an amendment made by this Act, or the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstance be held to be unconstitutional, or the remainder of this Act, the amendments made by this Act, and the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

SECTION 6. ACTION ITEMS.

1. The SGA Senate shall officially allocate $1,241.38 to fund the catering expenses for the Alumni Meet & Greet event.
2. The event shall take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in BSC 210A/B, for an estimated audience of up to 150 guests.
3. The SGA shall act as the official co-host alongside the Life Design Lab and shall assume responsibility for promotion, day-of setup, and coordination with the campus photographer.
4. The bill shall pass its first reading before the Senate, be reviewed and approved by the Finance Committee, and be passed in its second reading.

The Bill hereby Passes by a vote of x to 0 with 0 abstentions.

Upon passage, we have hereunto set our hands and caused the seal of the Senate to be affixed to this bill indicating the Senate’s assent and thus officially designated the bill’s adoption as law.
