A Bill Updating the SGA Bylaws

Be it enacted by the Senate of the Student Government Association at Johns Hopkins University assembled that:

  1. TITLE This Act may be referred to as the “SGA Initiatives Update Bill”
  2. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES

      1. The initiative tracker is not being used.
  3. PURPOSES
    1. To motivate senators to make progress on their initiatives.
  4. AMENDMENTS

4.3.1.1.1 The President of the Senate shall set the agenda according to the needs of the SGA. 4.3.1.1.2 Committee reports shall consist solely of reports – any pending committee action must be reported in advance and dealt with later in the meeting.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_X1PhkHiaV0CukRs1sfmKzqcOYUM_AHsmDAcE6qoW5I/edit?usp=sharing Under 4.3.1 MEETINGS 4.3.1.1.3 The agenda will contain a section titled “Initiative Updates’ that will require 3 senators to speak for one minute each about their personal/committee initiative updates. 4.3.1.1.3.1 The speakers will go in an order that is pre-determined for the term by the President of the Senate and the Secretary. This order will be determined before the third meeting of each term, and will be amended as necessary to reflect new members, or removed members. 4.3.1.1.3.2 If a Senator will not be there, they should send a ~75 word update to the President of the Senate to be displayed in lieu of their speaking time. If they have nothing to report and inform the President of the Senate of this, there are no consequences. However, if they fail to report anything it will be considered an unexcused absence. 4.3.1.1.3.3 After each Senator has spoken once, the cycle will repeat with the intent of providing updates since they last spoke. 4.3.1.1.3.4 The President of the Senate should announce the three Senators selected to speak at the next meeting at the end of the previous GBM.

These changes to the Bylaws shall take effect after the election period.
