  • SECTION 1: The Academic Affairs Committee
    • The Academic Affairs Committee oversees all activities that support the academic mission of the University. The Academic Affairs Committee shall have purview over Duke curriculum, faculty programs and pedagogy, course evaluations, academic advising, course registration, tuition, financial aid, the university academic calendar, admissions, student-faculty interaction, the Undergraduate Honor Code, academic services, study abroad programs, international civic engagement programs, and special academic programs. The Academic Affairs Committee shall also work closely with the Office of the Provost, the office of the Dean of Trinity College, the Office of Undergraduate Education, and the office of the Dean of the Pratt School for Engineering.

  • Responsibilities
    • Authorize, approve, and supervise all courses (except those of certain graduate professional schools).
    • Determine the conditions of admissions, certificates and degrees.
    • Recommend the hiring and promotion of faculty members.
    • Approve the publication of manuscripts by the University of California Press.
    • Advise on the administration of the UC libraries.
    • Assist in the searches for deans, chancellors, and presidents.
    • Advise the university president and the chancellors on budget and administrative matters under the rules of "shared governance."
  • Shared governance - establish communication channel and relationship with faculty and administrators
  • Address issues ranging from resource allocation and planning, benefits and working conditions, teaching, affirmative action and diversity, disciplinary action – basically anything related to faculty/staff topics, admissions, student standing
  • Assuring faculty quality
    • Relationship between students and faculty - complaints, suggestions, reviews, promotion/tenure or also termination

Overall

  • Most academic senates are composed of faculty/staff regarding higher institutional issues above reach of SGA
  • Academic senate typically viewed as speaking on behalf of the faculty and overseeing all things academic - new majors, courses, admissions requirements, etc
  • Idk if you want to do something similar or kinda create our own thing bc idt ive found a single one thats undergraduate - closest one was duke’s academic affairs committee
