Black Caucus Representative Funding Bill

Act to Fund SGA Black Jays 90s Photoshoot

SGA Black Jays 90s Photoshoot

Introduced by: Oluwanifemi ajayi Sponsored by: Kayla Marie Gonzalez and Jazzlyn Fernandez Presented for First Reading this 6th day of October in the year 2026

SECTION 1. TITLE. This Act may be referred to as SGA Black Jays 90s Photo Shoot

SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS.

  1. SGA — The term “SGA” shall refer to the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.
  2. Black Jays - The term “Black Jays” collectively refers to students of Black/African American descent on Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Campus.

SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.

  1. The purpose of this initiative is to celebrate and highlight the Black student community at Johns Hopkins University by bringing together Black students, organizations, and their executive boards for a collective photoshoot. The initiative will create a visual representation of the diversity, leadership, and community that exists among Black students on the Homewood Campus.
  2. This initiative aims to increase the visibility of Black student organizations and their work across campus. The photoshoot will be posted on the “Black At The Nest” Instagram page, which serves as a one-stop shop for everything Black about Hopkins on the Homewood Campus.
  3. SGA funding would allow this initiative to remain free and accessible to participating organizations and students. By eliminating costs or participation fees, additional financial burdens or lack of participation from the organizations are minimized.
  4. Because this is a collaborative initiative involving multiple Black student organizations, we anticipate significant participation from the Black student community. We anticipate approximately 20 Black student organizations and their executive board members participating in the photoshoot. Additionally, the event will be open to non-executive board members, allowing all students to take individual and group photos and connect with representatives from different organizations.
  5. We are actively utilizing student and campus resources to minimize the costs associated with this initiative. Rather than hiring an external photographer, we plan to collaborate with student photographers. We will also utilize equipment available through the Creative Media Center (CMC) rather than renting equipment externally.
