Phi Delta Theta – Crab Fest

``

`07 October 2023 / 2 to 6 PM / Glass Pavilion`

Executive Summary

  1. Description of Event

    1. Who, what, why, how?

      1. The event in question was Phi Delta Theta’s premier philanthropy event Crab Fest. Crab Fest was supported by Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters, the Alumni Association of Johns Hopkins, the Office of Family Engagement, and the Johns Hopkins University Student Government Association (“SGA”). This event was made possible thanks to support from each of these groups as well as Curt Engle, a Phi Delt Alumnus operating a national seafood distribution company, Harbour House. The event raised approximately $10,000, and we will donate approximately $5,500.
  2. Use of funds

    1. Budget here

      1. The allocation of $2,875 in total from SGA was dedicated to covering the cost of the event, predominantly for the cost of crabs from Harbour House. The total cost of the event was $4,510.99, and so the remainder of the cost ($1,635.99) of the event was covered by revenue generated from ticket sales for the event.
  3. Takeaways

    1. What did you learn?

      1. We learned how much Hopkins students, families, alumni, and community members cared to indulge in the Maryland staple of blue crabs fresh to eat at will. It was important to cater an event as a unique experience for those making the time to visit once a year during this important weekend of Parents and Alumni. We also learned how motivating it was to coordinate and organize such a large scale event in the name of philanthropy, and how much everyone else cared to join in our efforts towards a great cause.
    2. How many people came?
      1. We had 340 tickets sold.
    3. Add other numbers from campusgroups/instagram
  4. Future planning

    1. What will you do now?

      1. The money raised in profit from the event will be used to make donations towards Live Like Lou and the Packard Center. Live Like Lou is a new (less than 20 years) philanthropic foundation partnering nationally with Phi Delta Theta in hopes to raise money to support ALS patients, families, and communities and help fight for a cure and against the disease as a whole. The Packard Center at Johns Hopkins is the world’s premier research institution against ALS, fighting to find a cure for many years purely off of philanthropic donations and grants which we are happy to support, as well.
    2. What would you have changed

      1. There are many small logistical battles that we fought that ultimately may have made the event go a little smoother, but we are happy with the foundation that this event laid for the future and we hope to host the event with a greater population in a greater space with a variety of ticket options and food and drink selections, including the addition of alcoholic beverages for more to enjoy.
  5. Notes
