A Bill to Fund Phi Delta Theta’s Crab Fest

Referred to the senate by the Finance Committee which recommends its passing by a vote of 7 to 0.
Be it enacted by the Senate of the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University assembled that:
SECTION 1. TITLE. This Act may be referred to as the “Phi Delta Theta’s Crab Fest”
SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS.
- SGA — The term “SGA” shall refer to the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.
- JHU, Hopkins - The terms “JHU” and “Hopkins” shall refer to the Johns Hopkins University.
- ALS - The term “ALS” shall refer to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a progressive neurodegenerative disease.
SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.
- FINDINGS & PURPOSES
- The purpose of this event is for Phi Delta Theta to provide an all-you-can-eat crab-eating event to the Johns Hopkins community, including students, young alumni, and parents and family.
- This is to raise money for philanthropy, with a majority of the proceeds going to the Packard Center, the premier ALS research institute in the world that’s centered at Johns Hopkins.
- The remainder of the proceeds will be donated to Live Like Lou, an organization that is closely partnered with the national Phi Delta Theta fraternity to support ALS patients, families, and communities, and further promote the development of research of a cure in the future.
- The funding of this event will help reduce the cost of attendance from a typical $60 all-you-can-eat to a price range of around $20-25.
- The projected attendance of this event will be between 300 and 350 people from various groups, including students, young alumni, parents, and family.
- Sales for this event have already reached 200 attendees, with many more projected throughout the final days before the event as well as on the day of the event. This extra funding will be used to be able to provide more crabs for attendees to enjoy at an all-you-can-eat privilege.

- The total amount would be $875.00 for 5 bushels of 85 crabs each.
SECTION 5 . SEVERABILITY. Should any provision of this Act, an amendment made by this Act, or the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstance be held to be unconstitutional or , the remainder of this Act, the amendments made by this Act, and the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.
Upon passage, we have hereunto set our hands and caused the seal of the Senate to be affixed to this bill indicating the Senate’s assent and thus officially designated the bill’s adoption as law.
