Act to establish funding for the Haunted House Event

Be it enacted by the Senate of the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University assembled that:

SECTION 1. TITLE. This Act may be referred to as the “SGA Sponsor Funding for the Haunted House Event”

SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS.

  1. SGA — The term “SGA” shall refer to the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.
  2. JHU, Hopkins - The terms “JHU” and “Hopkins” shall refer to the Johns Hopkins University.
  3. CO2027 - The term “CO2027” refers to the Hopkins Class of 2027.
  4. TNH - The term “TNH” shall refer to the Haunted House venue: “The Nevermore Haunt”. Located in Inner Harbor.

SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.

  1. FINDINGS & PURPOSES

The purpose of this event is to connect the Hopkins student body in a fun way to celebrate Halloween! A poll was released to the Class of 2027 via. the official Instagram page for the class, and the overall majority of the freshman student body desires a haunted house event for halloween. This is a very large sample size (as shown in figure 1), which is a valid representation of the Hopkins student body as a whole. Figure 1: Poll to determine majority interest for Halloween Event

This event will provide a fun and enjoyable night for all students, regardless of class. According to TNH, “Our event runs from 7-11pm that evening, your group can arrive all at once or staggered anytime between that window to enter the attraction. In addition to our haunted house attraction we will also have our front of house entertainment which includes fire dancers, strong man performances as well as food-trucks (Jimmys Seafood and Soul Food BBQ scheduled that evening) and an on-site bar for guests 21+ older.”

SECTION 4. FUNDING OF ITEMS

  1. The total amount would be $2400.00
  2. All other funding (transportation and various costs) for this campus-wide event will be donated by the Class of 2027.
  3. The event will be held at TNH on Saturday, October 28, with a pickup time of 6:30 PM at the Beach, and a return pickup time of 11:00 PM at TNH. Pickup will be done through Hopkins Custom Transportation Services.

SECTION 5 . SEVERABILITY. Should any provision of this Act, an amendment made by this Act, or the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstance be held to be unconstitutional or , the remainder of this Act, the amendments made by this Act, and the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

The Bill hereby Passes by a vote of 24 to 0 with 0 abstentions.

Upon passage, we have hereunto set our hands and caused the seal of the Senate to be affixed to this bill indicating the Senate’s assent and thus officially designated the bill’s adoption as law.
