An SGA MASA cosponsorship Funding Bill

Act to Fund MASA event Latine Fashion Show in 2024

SECTION 1. TITLE. This Act may be referred to as the “MASA Fashion Show Funding Bill”

SECTION 2. DEFINITIONS.

  1. SGA — The term “SGA” shall refer to the Student Government Association of The Johns Hopkins University.
  2. JHU, Hopkins - The terms “JHU” and “Hopkins” shall refer to the Johns Hopkins University.
  3. MASA- The term “MASA” shall refer to the Mexican American Student Association

SECTION 3. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES.

  1. FINDINGS & PURPOSES (explain why funding is needed, what the event is for, and what content and sponsorship is desired -- open to all? Celebrating event? Etc. )
    1. The Mexican American Student Association was created as a way to celebrate Mexican heritage and culture at Johns Hopkins University. Through various fun and exciting events, they aim to include and educate the wider Hopkins' community on customs, celebrations, and ideas that are central to Mexican heritage. Though this organization was created with the purpose of sharing Mexican culture the organization is proud to welcome everyone regardless of their background.
      1. Currently have 267 active members.
    2. This would be the first time this event is hosted. The official name of the event is Historia Entre Telas: Tales Woven in Fabric.
      1. The Event will take place April 14, 2024 from 8:00-9:30 PM in the Glass Pavilion
      2. The purpose of holding this fashion show is to celebrate the diverse cultures that are found under the Latin American identity here at Hopkins. By hosting a large event like this MASA hopes to increase the visibility of their community on campus and empower their students’ identities by sharing the stories behind the items they wear with the larger Hopkins community. With this inaugural show they hope to establish this as a recurring event that grows larger every year and becomes a tradition on campus.
    3. The full cost of this event is estimated to be around $5,000
      1. MASA received $1000 in semesterly allocations
      2. Current group funds are $150
        1. This will be used towards fundraising for next year & prizes
      3. Estimate they can contribute $2000 to cover decorations & DJ Cost
        1. Still in need of a minimum xxxx

SECTION 5 . SEVERABILITY. Should any provision of this Act, an amendment made by this Act, or the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstance be held to be unconstitutional or , the remainder of this Act, the amendments made by this Act, and the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

The Bill hereby Passes by a vote of x to x with x abstentions.

Upon passage, we have hereunto set our hands and caused the seal of the Senate to be affixed to this bill indicating the Senate’s assent and thus officially designated the bill’s adoption as law.
