- Joined by Ava (a member on the Judiciary)
- All details and storyline on the 2nd slide. Also, slide titled “Important Takeaways” includes the sum up of what was discussed.
- Ruling: 5-0 in favor of Milki (making the change is unconstitutional because it happened during election period)
- Important note: SGA has 3 days to make an appeal if they disagree with the ruling.
- Jackson POI: if there was an amendment that happened now since we’re not in election period would that be allowed? Ava answered yes.
- President Ryan: *double check and add*
- VP Nasreen said that it’s best for the presenters to finish the presentation then move into Q&A since there were lots of POIs.
- MOTION FOR 5 MINUTE BREAK - PASSED
- Jackson POI: Can the parliamentarian remind the senate on how floor amendments work.
- Response: for constitutional amendments anyone can introduce it at any time, but when introduced it needs ¾ of votes and can possibly bypass 1st reading.
- Constitute amends are not required to go through the normal bill process
- Stone POI: motion to table the discussion later (PASSED)
- Motion to have AKPSI present now (PASSED)
- Storytelling Event Feedback- President Nasreen Naqvi & SGA Exec
- For those who attended, if you have any strong opinions send Nasreen a Team message
- Transition Discussion- President Nasreen Naqvi
- Example-Student Services Transition Document 2022-2023 (1).pdf
- This 111th SGA is coming to a close
- If you were in any position such as Committee/Caucus chair
- Ryan motioned to address the senate: the executive branch usually coordinates the transition. Aiming to prepare a transition document for every class programing council, members of the executive branch, documents for each of the schools KSAS and WSE. SHOULD BE FINALIZED WITHIN THE NEXT DAY OR 2
- Transition document for student services is massive but they don’t have to be that long
- Welcome to delegate certain sections of the document to specific members
- Nasreen presented the example document in point ‘i’
- Jackson/Nasreen things to include:
- Any meetings you had
- Any legislations you passed
- Any important meetings that happened
- Outcomes/what came out of meetings
- Talk about things that HADN’T HAPPENED
- Mention general advice at the end: things that could have been better…
- Programming Council Updates - Senator Tim Huang
- Since Tim is going to be chair of programming he looked at the bylaws
- Goal of amendments: increase participation and engagement
- He created an amendment to (with Jackson’s help):
- Include new committee
- Tabling events to be led by committees especially for surveying
- Committee on programming: encompass class programming councils. Will work on workshops, tabling…
- Please refer to the attached document for a complete list of amendments.
- Still in first reading so it should not interfere with the constitution.
- Motion to put this in the IA committee. PASSED.
First Reading
Second Reading
- - Chair of Programming Shalala Leny
- Each year SGA buys stoles and cords for graduating members. Amount is $569.10
- It’s in second reading.
- Motion to vote.
- Jackson POI: Did we get everyone? Yes, we looked at the roster and sent out a Team message.
- PASSED
- MASA Funding Bill - Senator Cynthia Sanchez Hidalgo
- AKPSI Fundraiser Bill - Senator Sun Moon
- Amir Modaressanavi Spikeball Fundraiser
- 3 presenters (no names mentioned)
- Few changes:
- Instead of 128 t-shirts they increased to 150
- Trophies prices increased a little
- Through SAC funding they were able to get funding for everything except t-shirts.
- Only $900 budget for SGA so we cannot pitch in completely since the price of t-shirts was $1280. Finance committee decided not to approve t-shirts.
- AKPSI can fund $500 for the t-shirts
- POI Jackson to charles: how to proceed? Charles: just vote
- Tim POI: would you be able to have people order the shirts ahead of time and have people donate to buy the shirts because SGA might not be able to fund it? Goal with the event is not just to make money but also to celebrate Amir’s life and they feel like “selling” t-shirts would decrease the attendance. The way they designed the event was to have the t-shirts as incentive
- Nasreen: suggestion: is there anything else that you can give out with the $500 that you’re going to pitch in?
- Motion to move into voting procedure.
- Moved to roll call.
- Motion withdrawn
- Moved to 5 minute recess.
- Approve to Finance committee and use event grants
